Transforming invasive roi fish into premium organic fertilizer, one spear at a time
At Kona Coast Nutrients, we believe that environmental challenges can become ecological solutions. Our mission is to protect and restore Hawaii’s precious coral reef ecosystems while providing sustainable, locally-sourced nutrition for island agriculture.
The invasive roi (peacock grouper) was introduced to Hawaiian waters in the 1950s and has since devastated native fish populations, disrupting the delicate balance of our reef ecosystems. Through selective spearfishing, we carefully harvest these invasive predators, preventing further damage to our reefs while creating a valuable resource.
Every roi we remove helps native fish populations recover. Every bottle of our fish emulsion fertilizer we produce returns nutrients to the land, closing the loop in Hawaii’s natural cycles. We’re not just making fertilizer—we’re healing reefs, supporting local farmers, and building a more sustainable future for Hawaii.
Our process is simple: sustainably harvested roi is carefully processed into nutrient-rich fish emulsion that provides gardens with organic nitrogen, trace minerals, and beneficial compounds. What was once an ecological threat becomes a powerful tool for growing healthy, vibrant crops right here in Hawaii.
